Passport is the result of an initiative to take the Hub product and functionality to a mobile experience. The app was designed around the concepts of security, productivity, and social

Users and stakeholders had been requesting mobile experiences as we were developing the Hub, and the Hub platform was built with mWeb in mind but the challenge was access and security, having to connect to VPN and type in lengthy passwords a sure fire way to turn off users. Luckily our engineering team found a good path forward, working with eBay security teams to establish a method to allow the app to be created with out security friction.

A pilot version was initially launched to a small set of users and to gather feedback. One of the early challenges faced was the direction the app was to go in. Different stakeholders had different ideas of what the app should be with no single vision really taking hold. The pilot helped move that forward and putting a real product in people’s hands helped the team learn a lot about the user needs, feasibility and experiences needed.

Based on the response to the pilot we did a relatively dramatic redesign of the core experience shifting from a design that was static and based around 4 main tiles to a home screen that was dynamic and card based. We knew right away that this architecture would give us the flexibility to work around both user needs and business objectives.

As of 2019 the home screen gives users quick access to meeting information with quick access to participant and conference information, company events, announcements, news, approvals, and personalized notifications.

We also developed home screen banners that can be targeted and used to build awareness for key moments, initiatives or events.

Alongside this we also developed the ability to add overlays to images for events, social media and campaigns.
